Ramayan as English Sonnet
Posted on 29 June 2023; 09:00 PM IST. Last Updated 25 July 2023; 09:45 PM IST.Summary: This poem describes Ramayan as a sonnet, in trochaic pentameter with rhymes arranged as “abab cdcd efef gg”. Gods and angels requested Lord Vishnu's help to fight evil Ravana. The Lord informed them that he would be born as prince Ram in Ayodhya. Devi Lakshmi told that she would be born in Mithila as princess Sita. Ram and Sita are popularly referred to as SiyaRam, and their life defines the Vedic tradition.

Ramayan as English Sonnet
God of Gods and Lord of mighty grandeur,
granted boons when worship turned to fervor;
Those who kept their faith reached crowning glory,
Those who lost their faith were reduced to frenzy.
Pure and perfect Ram is Lord of radiance,
conquered devils and created splendid balance;
led us out of woods as Vedic florence,
filled our inner hearts as relic of conformance.
Ravan was a king with mighty fiery power,
boon of death made him a dark evil devil;
doom came disguised as mystique super power,
rage hid truth from his soul’s careful council.
God has come as Ram to prove his kind grace,
faith is Ram as Icon, faith is God’s peace.
